Holiday Handsoap

Pumpkin spice and everything nice.

Don't you just love the aromas of fall?

You can make some festive foaming handsoap with about as little effort as it takes to squeeze the refill bottle into your dispenser.  For all you non-crafty types, believe me when I say, "You can do this!!"

5 Reasons why you should make your own soap:

  • It's safe (completely non-toxic)
  • It's naturally anti-bacterial (killing 99% of germs without harmful chemicals such as triclosan)
  • It's cheap (one 32 oz. bottle of Dr. Bonner's will give you 16 refills)
  • Your kids can pump away with very little soapy mess
  • It takes all of about 1.5 minutes

What  you need:

  • A foaming hand soap dispenser (you can recycle an old Bath & Body Works one)
  • Liquid Castile soap (I use Dr. Bonner's Baby Mild Unscented)
  • Distilled Water
  • Your choice of doTerra's CPTG (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade) essential oils (usually about 4-6 drops) Here are four blending ideas:
Pumpkin Spice
4 drops OnGuard
2 drops Citrus Bliss

Fall Harvest
1 drop of Clove
1 drop of Cinnamon
3 drops of Wild Orange
1 drop Vanilla

Citrus Basil
4 drops Citrus Bliss
1 drop Basil

Lemon Herb:
3 drops of Lemon
1 drop of Wild Orange
1 drop Dill

Fresh Flowers
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Melaleuca Alternifolia (a.k.a Tea Tree)

Deck the Halls
1 drop White Fir
1 drop Cassia
1 drop Cinnamon
1 drop Wild Orange
1 drop Cedarwood
1 drop Vanilla (I bought mine from essential depot)

Directions:

  • Pour 2 ounces of castile soap into the empty soap pump
  • Add your preferred essential oil drops and swirl around to let them dissolve in the soap (essential oils are lipid soluble, so they will emulsify in the castile soap)
  • Fill the pump with distilled water leaving about an inch at the top so that the foaming pump mechanism fits
  • Screw the top on and give it a good shake.
  • Put a fun label on it if you want (I ordered waterproof vinyl labels from evermine labels)
Pair it with a hand towel and this makes a great homemade hostess gift.  You can even create your own themed basket.  For your lemon lovers add a box of lemon tea and some lemon candies. For your coffee lovers, add some pumpkin spice coffee and a cozy mug.  Now aren't you wishing someone would bring you a gift like this?!
